Some of which are copyrighted movies, software?, copyrighted anime, duplicate jihadi snuff films and other lazy attemts by posters who ware allowed to post without the following:

1. A verified email address- solution: when siging up send a confirmation email. No confirmation, no library card period. Almost all sites do that.

2. Complete meta data- solution: do not allow the file to go live without a description. Let users tag stuff with "adfadfads" as bugus and delte. Freesound, Ourmedia, CCMixter and other Creative Commons sites do not allow stuff up without moderation, let alone completing the description. It's mostly code, when you leave a filed blank it will not upload. EAST FIX.

3. Copyright information- solution: see above... anything wihtout copyright information is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Put the responsibility on the poster and remove some of it form the site.

4. Proper location- Solution: If it ends in .EXE, it's not a movie. If it ends in .mp3, it's not a book and if it ends in .pdf, it's not a song... coding issue... and or gates... I used to program in basic 20 years ago and I could have written 10 lines to scrub this with somthing like this:

10 get $
20 if $ = EXE, then it isn't a friggin movie, it's software!

This site is awesome and the moderators are great but this place is in jeapordy of getting sued for something, whether it be a copyright violation or the hosting of sensitive information that may affect national security or even passing messages between terrorists. I know this is a volunteer effort (i think) but there has to be someone who could donate some code and some time to make a few simple changes that would eliminate 80-90% of this crap.

In summary, freedom of speech is paramount, however... if you cannot describe what you are posting, use a real email address or advise what copyright license the item was released under, it's probably not "free" speech. It's probably someone's intellectual property, malware or terrorist training manuals... This is a disgrace. Anyone else agree?

FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia.

i dunno...I did a quick read, Jihadist's are known to collapse buildings and the BBC's Jihadist nuthuggers may have known beforehand. To my recollection, that bldg was in grave danger of collapse...and was evacuated (so what?)
Jihadist's may have even set "insurance" charges in the Towers....I just have never bought into the silly rumour that out government orchestrated 9/11 in any way.
SO, I'll watch that link/movie, hate to comment blindly

Thanks man... spread the word, shit I'll help for free if it means no more dumping... I spend too much time translating and investigating stuff that would not even make it past the FTP on most sites... this site is too cool to be brought down by litigation and jihadi nonsense... I hope they take a proactive stance and not wait untill it needs to be addressed like people killed by drunk driving illegals recently and now all of a sudden we should do something about immigration... peace.

Hey Telephone Toughguy,
I like your ideas. Some like using a valid email to get posting priviledges is really a no-brainer. And you're right , the current methods for posting open the Archive to all sorts of legal problems. This Archive is great -- I would hate to lose it.

An additional idea:
1) Create a network of Archive MVPs that would have to approve a posting before it goes live. MVPs would be users who demonstrate some level of trustworthy-ness (is that a word). MVP status would be revoked if you approve objectionable content. Many forums use this MVP approach to extend the management activities to a larger set of users.

I would volunteer to help with programming as well. Currently code in .Net C#, but I could learn PHP pretty quick if that's what they use.

Now we are talking! And by the way I have gotten no responses from my email... I think they might consider me an extremeist on the opposite side of the political spectrum based upon some of the spotlighted items and curators choices I have seen but you never know.

Actually I am aggravated that people can post stuff to this site without describing it and stating the copyright information. It is an insult to all users of this site and dilutes the quality of items across the board, takes away valuable resources and risks the integrity and continuation of this website, that's if you care about this site. It's more than Jihad, which IS the war, it's the spam, bootleg movies and software that someone owns and could very well sue this site for allowing it to be distributed across the globe to millions of people for free. Imagine if it was your movie or music and someone was blasting it up without mentioning who you were or what rights you had to it? If you think this is funny, then you need help, no offense. I will forward this to info as well, good call. I thought it was everyone's right to know what is happening that they may not see because it doesn't affect them...

Imagine if I started posting a bunch of copies of movies and software and Bin Laden speeches into the LMA with no description, no set list, no copyright information and I did it 20 times a day... That is what the rest of us in other areas of this site see daily. I bet all of you would be anything from annoyed to outraged. Think about it. I'd be happy to demonstrate that exact scenario because there is no accountability or consequences but then I would be the dick...

PEACE

Dear Telephone Toughguy,

I'm sure that you've tried contacting the owners or moderators of archive.org. What have they said about this situation? I'm trying to be both honest and kind when I say: it's likely that they will be better suited to help you more than we are.

Peace to tha East,
Supaslush.

Yeah, I know. I'll let you know if I get a response. I just was especially aggravated when I hit recent submissions and saw pages of new stuff that is mostly copyright violations just dumped here like this was a north jersey landfill.

UPDATE!
Oh and ETREE REGULARLY MODERATES UPLOADS

http://www.archive.org/iathreads/post-view.php?id=115880

So I know it can be done.
